Nagarjuna

Legendary and historical figures

Nagarjuna was a Buddhist monk and the principal philosopher of Mahayana Buddhism. While nothing definite is known about his life, he is assumed to have lived in the second or third century in western or southern India. Later, legends arose that tell of miracles and supernatural events attributed to him. His writings on the Middle Path and on the philosophy of emptiness represent substantial contributions to the development of Mahayana Buddhism.
