Miracles

Symbols and art

In the great world religions, writings that describe exceptional personalities often contain miracle stories. Their purpose is to highlight a specific hero’s uniqueness. The story of the Buddha (Buddha legends) also recounts miraculous deeds and events, including, for example, his conception and birth. According to Buddhist tradition, holy men and religious masters are often credited with the ability to perform miracles. Of the Buddha it is said that he refused put on such displays simply for the sake of boasting or propaganda.
