The Four Noble Truths (Skt. aryasatya, Pa. ariyasacca) describe four basic insights which, according to Buddhist belief, are prerequisite for breaking the eternal cycle of rebirth:
The first truth says that life intrinsically means suffering.
The second truth names the causes of suffering: hate, craving, and ignorance.
The third truth states that suffering can be ended by overcoming the causes of suffering.
The fourth truth explains that there is a way to overcome all suffering, namely by following the Eightfold Path.
