Standing Buddha Shakyamuni

Standing Buddha Shakyamuni

In the art of the Himalayas, Buddha Shakyamuni is generally portrayed sitting with crossed legs in the lotus position, but some figures and paintings do show him standing.

This ungilded brass figure shows the Buddha standing upon a double lotus atop a stepped plinth. His posture is rigid, and his close-fitting robe is unwrinkled. His hands are clasped in the gesture of meditation.
