Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara

In this image, Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, carries a lotus blossom in his upper left hand – which is why he is often referred to as Padmapani, “lotus-in-hand”. In his lower left hand he holds a water vessel, and in his upper right hand a prayer chain. The lower right hand is turned towards the viewer in the gesture of generosity. His crown features the Transcendent Buddha Amitabha. At the bottom right is the figure of a donor.
