The Prophecy of the Buddha Dipankara

The Prophecy of the Buddha Dipankara

This group of figures shows Buddha Shakyamuni on the left in an earlier existence as the hermit Sumedha. In a posture of submission, he pays his respects to Buddha Dipankara, a buddha of an earlier aeon. Buddha Dipankara is predicting Sumedha’s rebirth as Buddha Shakyamuni.
