Presumed to have been the property of a Tibetan noble family, this fire-gilt stupa contains a painted miniature of the Buddha in the front section of its dome. The base is a carefully crafted square lion throne. The dome is hung with strings of pearls, and is topped by a symbol for the sun (in coral) and another for the moon (in mother-of-pearl). The stupa is crowned by a drop-shaped turquoise stone that symbolises the jewel of the Buddha’s teachings.
