The Descent of Buddha Amida

The Descent of Buddha Amida

In the company of two bodhisattvas, Buddha Amitabha (Jap. Amida) looks down on his followers. His hands are folded in the gesture of greeting with which he welcomes the pure souls who are reborn in the “Pure Land of the West”.

The figures are rendered in gold and decorated with a fine pattern of cut gold leaf.
