Buddha Shakyamuni Attains Awakening Under the Bodhi Tree

Buddha Shakyamuni Attains Awakening Under the Bodhi Tree

These two metal objects are almost identical and show Prince Siddhartha on the path to his awakening. He is sitting under the Bodhi tree and calls the earth goddess to be his witness at the moment of awakening.

Objects like these were produced in large quantities for ritual purposes. In Myanmar, Buddhist men and women obtained them in order to donate them to a shrine.
