Votive Stela with Buddha Shakyamuni

Votive Stela with Buddha Shakyamuni

The oval shape of the Buddha’s nimbus dominates the appearance of this votive stela. The flame motif of the nimbus and the figures accompanying the Buddha are engraved with shallow lines.

Votive stelae such as this were often commissioned by a group of donors and installed in a temple precinct. The names of the donors are incised on the rear of the stela.
