The Transcendent Buddha Akshobhya

The Transcendent Buddha Akshobhya

Akshobhya, the “Immovable One”, is one of the Five Transcendent Buddhas, each of whom represents an aspect of the ultimate wisdom. He stands for the triumph over cravings and passions through reflection and wisdom. Like his fellow Transcendent Buddhas, he is portrayed wearing opulent jewellery.

Akshobhya is associated with the earth-touching gesture, which symbolizes supreme wisdom. His attribute is the vajra, supported here by two lotus flowers next to the figure’s shoulders. His mount, the elephant, is shown at the foot of his throne.
