Female Monkey with Her Young

Female Monkey with Her Young

In Buddhism, monkeys stand for discontent and the constant craving for more and better. Humans are compared to a monkey who has just picked a fruit but then sees one higher up in the tree that looks even more tempting. So he throws away the first fruit and climbs higher. This goes on and on until he reaches the top, empty-handed but still hungry.
