Bodhidharma

Bodhidharma

Qi Baishi is one of the most famous representatives of modern painting in China. With his unconventional, free, and expressive style, he contributed significantly to the revival of ink painting in the 20th century.

This image shows the legendary Indian Zen master Bodhidharma sitting in meditation below an overhanging rock. His robe has the appearance of a rock face, and his profile is reflected in the outline of the cliff above him. The artist thus signals the intense concentration of the master of meditation.
