Vase with Lotus Vines and the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism

Vase with Lotus Vines and the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism

This 15th-century vase was produced using the cloisonné technique. Metal strips are soldered onto a (usually) metal support and the resulting cells are then filled with glass paste. When fired, the paste melts into homogenous glass, which has lost nothing of its radiance to this day. The vase’s decoration, which features lotus vines and the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism, suggests that this object was used for religious purposes.
