This three-quarter portrait is in keeping with standard images ofBuddhist priests. The master is seated in the position with his legs crossed on an ornamentally carved, seat, his shoes are on a small footstool. Over his simple garment he wears a precious gold brocade wrap. In one hand he holds a stick which he uses to smack his pupils seated in meditation on the back to stop them from falling asleep. His gaze avoids the viewer and is fixed on a point hidden to us.
